Holophone has created the PortaMic 5.1 Pro Surround Microphone that provides prosumer camcorder users with a simple way to capture audio in true 5.1 surround sound. The PortaMic 5.1 operates on a 9V battery and features an elliptical shape that mimics the acoustical properties of human hearing. There are up to six individual microphone capsules that effectively capture left-front, right-front, center, left-rear, right-rear and sub channels. The Holophone Portamic 5.1 is priced at around $599.
